Every great athlete starts somewhere — and for kids ages 6–13 who use wheelchairs, the Gem State Falcons Prep team is where it begins.
Prep is the youth foundation of Idaho’s home for adaptive wheelchair basketball, built to introduce young players to the sport in a setting that’s welcoming, supportive, and genuinely fun from the first whistle.

On the court, Prep athletes develop the fundamentals the whole game is built on. They learn to handle a sport wheelchair with control and confidence — pushing, stopping, pivoting, and turning — while picking up core basketball skills like dribbling on the move, passing, and shooting. Off the court, they’re building something just as valuable: teamwork, communication, focus, and the kind of self-belief that carries into every part of life.
What makes Prep special is who these kids get to learn from. Prep athletes train alongside the Junior Varsity squad and the nationally-ranked adult Falcons, so younger players grow up surrounded by mentors, role models, and a clear path forward as their skills develop. It’s not just a team — it’s a community where kids find friends who share their experience and discover what they’re capable of.
