Tommy Schroeder, Director of Youth Athletics

Tommy Schroeder is a veteran wheelchair basketball player, coach, and co-founder of the Gem State Falcons, Idaho’s first NWBA team. Born with spina bifida, Schroeder has used a wheelchair his entire life. He discovered adaptive sports at age seven in Wisconsin, inspired by his athletic siblings. Over a 35-year career, Schroeder has competed globally, including playing overseas.After moving to Idaho, he noticed a lack of local competitive outlets. To bridge this gap, he and his father co-founded the Gem State Falcons in Boise. Today, Schroeder is the adult team’s head coach and starting point guard. He also launched a junior prep team to mentor youth players aged 6 to 15.For Schroeder, the sport is a vital tool for building confidence and independence. Through court leadership and school demonstrations, he works to shift perspectives on disabilities. His mission is to keep athletes off the sidelines.
