Our Mission

Through adaptive sports we empower people with physical disabilities to live independently and fully.

Gem State Sports is dedicated to transforming lives through the power of adaptive athletics. Gem State Sports is home to the Gem State Falcons — Idaho’s wheelchair basketball team and a proud member of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA).

We believe sport is one of the most powerful tools for building independence, confidence, and community. Our programs serve athletes from age 6 to 60+, with adult, junior varsity, and prep teams that welcome players of all skill levels and experience.

How do I connect with the team?

We use the app SportsEngine to manage our team’s rosters, chats, schedule, RSVPs, and tournaments. Download the app and get connected: iOS devices | Android devices.

I don’t have a basketball wheelchair.

Don’t worry. We have a handful of basketball wheelchairs available at our weekly practice sessions. Come and try it out, and as you get more serious about the sport you may want to buy your own chair. Thanks to our generous donors, we might be able to help you out!

Join the club! Literally. You are welcome here. Come and be a part of our community of friendship, teamwork, and basketball. We’re not just building athletes — we’re building character. Every practice, every game, and every moment on the court is an opportunity to break down barriers, discover new potential, and remind our athletes and our community that disability…

How do I join?

Easy. Just go to our JOIN page and submit the form. There are no fees, we just need contact information. Once you join, you’ll be contacted by a Gem State Sports Ambassador who can get you onboarded to the team! If you’ve got additional questions, feel free to contact us.

What team will I be on?

There are three teams: Adult, Junior Varsity (coming soon), and Prep. Anyone 18+ years old is eligible for the Adult team, 14-17 year olds are eligible for the Junior Varsity team, and 6-13 year olds are eligible for the Prep team.

How much does it cost to join?

Nothing! Joining the Gem State Falcons adult team, junior varsity, or prep team is free. There is NO registration fee to join the team. Thanks to our generous donors, we are able to provide jerseys, practices, and practice locations free of charge. Some of our tournament and traveling costs (optional) are also offset by generous donations.
